One
of
the
teachers
of
the
law
came
and
heard
them
debating.
Noticing
that
Jesus
had
given
them
a good
answer,
he
asked
him, "Of
all
the
commandments,
which
is
the
most
important?"
"The
most
important
one," answered
Jesus, "is
this:
'Hear,
O Israel,
the
Lord
our
God,
the
Lord
is
one.
Love
the
Lord
your
God
with
all
your
heart
and
with
all
your
soul
and
with
all
your
mind
and
with
all
your
strength.
The
second
is
this:
'Love
your
neighbor
as
yourself.
There
is
no
commandment
greater
than
these."

In
the
Gospels
Jesus
says
that
the
greatest
commandments
are
to
love
God
and
love
one’s
neighbor.
Loving
one’s
neighbor
means
going
beyond
tolerating
differences.
It
means
working
toward
deep
understanding
of
each
other,
to
listen
and
learn
from
those
who
follow
different
faith
traditions.
In the summer of 1990 a group of Christians, some from the Minnesota Council of Churches, invited representatives of the Islamic Center of Minnesota to meet so that they could begin to learn about each other's religion. In October of that year a small group of about a dozen people began meeting monthly in each other's homes. This was the begining of the Muslim Christian dialogues.
The monthly dialogues have meet for nearly two decades. They continue to be sponsored by the
Minnesota
Council
of
Churches
and The Islamic
Center
of
Minnesota.
The
dialogues
occur
on
the
third
Sunday
of
every
month,
September
through
May,
at
the
Islamic
Center
of
Minnesota.
They
are
free
and
open
to
the
public.
During
the
two-hour
session
theological
scholars
present
a
different
aspect
of
faith
and
then
participants
have
time
to
ask
questions
of
the
presenters
and
of
each
other.
